These are the preliminary works leading to the Profiles in Ice paintings.

 


They are composed of three layers: 

 

  1. Topo map of frozen landscape.

  2. Constellation and its boundary. *

  3. Fading iceberg.

 

*  In 1930 the International Astronomical Union officially listed 88 constellations and drew a boundary around each. The boundary edges meet, mapping the imaginary sphere — the celestial sphere — surrounding Earth into 88 pieces. 

This resulted in a strange jigsaw puzzle encircling the Earth. 

An astronomical mosaic over our heads;

providing a snapshot of time as they pass above.
